DESCRIPTION:Suggested Donation: $10 \nInterSpheres Trio performs works by Balázs Horváth\, Asha Srinivasan\, and Dan Tramte. \nProgram:\nBalázs Horváth – Dualith\nAsha Srinivasan – Utthista\nBalázs Horváth – Racs (world premiere)\nDan Tramte – i/o \nInterSpheres Trio is Dr. Lisa Bost-Sandberg\, flute; Éva Polgár\, piano; Jacob Harpster\, percussion.\n\nCOMPOSER Bios\nBalázs Horváth received several prizes at Hungarian and international composer competitions\, his compositions are frequently performed in Hungary and abroad. Beside the structural collectedness his music is very colourful\, sometimes rich in enterprising sound effects and often uses grotesque poetic and melodic ideas. Balázs Horváth regularly appears as conductor and performer of contemporary music. In 2009 he founded THReNSeMBle with six young musicians for performing contemporary music from Hungary and from abroad. \nAs an Indian-American composer\, Asha Srinivasan draws from her Western musical training and her Indian heritage to create her compositional language. Her music has been presented at various national and international venues including SEAMUS\, ICMC\, June in Buffalo\, SCI\, and the National Flute Convention. She won the Ruam Samai award at the 2011 Thailand International Composition Festival for Dviraag (flute and cello) and she was selected for the 2012 Mizzou New Music Summer Festival\, where Svara-lila (chamber orchestra) was premiered by Alarm Will Sound. She has also won national commissioning competitions\, including the BMI Foundation’s Women’s Music Commission and the Flute/Cello Commissioning Circle. Other honors include: multiple ASCAPlus Awards\, the Walsum prize for Kalpitha (string quartet)\, and the Prix d’Eté 2nd prize for Alone\, Dancing (flute and electronics). Her works have been recorded on Ablaze Records\, Beauport Classical\, and Mark Records. Her studies include: D.M.A. in Composition at University of Maryland\, College Park; M.Mus. in Computer Music Composition and Music Theory Pedagogy at the Peabody Conservatory\, and B.A. at Goucher College. For more information\, please visit www.twocomposers.org \nDan Tramte (b. 1985) is a composer\, a teaching fellow at Harvard\, a new media/music theorist\, and the YouTube ‘Score Follower.’ Listeners have described his music in terms such as “noisy\, intense” (Computer Music Journal 34-4)\, “youthful\, energetic” (CMJ 35-3) “glitchy\, fragmented\, lots of silence” (ICMC 2011 review)\, “medium rare filet mignon” (Elainie Lillios)\, “I don’t feel safe in this room anymore” (Joseph Lyszczarz)\, and “This makes my face feel funny” (Monica Hershberger). In 2014/15 his works have been toured throughout USA and Europe by ensembles/soloists InterSpheres Trio\, Patchwork\, and Nico Couck. 2016 projects include Promenade Sauvage tour\, and commissions from Keith Kirchoff\, Weston Olencki\, and Wild Rumpus. \nPERFORMER Bios\n(FLUTE)\nDr. Lisa Bost-Sandberg teaches composition at the University of Mary and performs as principal flute of the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra and flutist of the InterSpheres Trio. Active as a performer\, composer\, improviser\, and educator\, her guest appearances include universities\, conferences\, and festivals in the United States and Europe. She has recorded on the Albany\, GIA\, and North Texas Jazz labels. A dedicated advocate of the music of today\, she has premiered numerous pieces and is currently serving as chair of the National Flute Association New Music Advisory Committee. Her compositions have been selected for performance at regional\, national\, and international events\, including National Flute Association conventions and the World Saxophone Congress in Scotland. A Montana native\, Bost-Sandberg lives in Grand Forks and is a graduate of the University of Iowa (Bachelor of Music)\, New York University (Master of Arts)\, and the University of North Texas (Doctor of Musical Arts). www.lisabost.com \n(PIANIST)\nHungarian pianist Éva Polgár is a renowned performer of traditional and contemporary music. She has performed as a soloist\, chamber musician\, and recording artist in Hungary\, Germany\, Finland\, France\, the United Kingdom\, Colombia\, and the United States. Recent performances have included concerto appearances with conductors Tamás Vásáry at the Budapest Danube Palace and Horst Förster at the Leipzig Gewandhaus. A graduate of the Franz Liszt University in Budapest and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki\, Ms. Polgár has won top prizes in competitions including the International Liszt Competition in Los Angeles. She is a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas where she holds a Teaching Fellowship position. Ms. Polgár was recognized with UNT’s Sherman/Barsanti Inspiration Award for her originality and dedication to her creative pursuits. \n(PERCUSSIONIST)\nJacob Harpster is a percussionist currently based in Chicago. As a multifaceted soloist and chamber musician\, Jacob has toured throughout the United States\, Europe\, South Korea and all 47 prefectures in Japan. An enthusiast of contemporary music\, Harpster has commissioned and premiered many works throughout the U.S. and Europe. Harpster earned his BM in percussion performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he was awarded the prestigious Performer’s Certificate and while at IU was grand prize winner of the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition. He earned his MM in percussion performance with related field studies in contemporary performance from the University of North Texas. Residing in Chicago\, Harpster performs with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and is a collaborating artist with Chicago-based contemporary music ensemble\, Fonema Consort.
