Passionate about chamber music and collaboration\, he has worked with members of the Guarneri\, Spektral\, JACK\, and Brentano quartets\, International Contemporary Ensemble\, and Alarm Will Sound.\nMagnus earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Peabody Conservatory under the tutelage of Marian Hahn. Previously\, he studied with Emilio del Rosario and Ralph Neiweem at the Music Institute of Chicago. An enthusiastic pedagogue\, he currently serves on the faculty of Great Neck Music Conservatory on Long Island\, New York and has previously been on the faculty of the Gasse School of Music and Chicago Music Lessons. In addition to teaching\, he is a dedicated ballet pianist and has worked for New York City’s Ballet Arts and Chicago’s Hyde Park School of Dance.\nTHE _____ EXPERIMENT (pronounced The “Blank” Experiment) is an up and coming flexible instrumentation ensemble based in the Midwest. With over 30 commissions\, this group is committed to expanding the repertoire for mixed chamber ensembles. Their mission is to commission music by a variety of composers in order to create high quality\, but audibly approachable new music by performing outreach concerts for a variety of audiences in various locations. . This ensemble was originally founded in 2017 by Andrew Hosler (saxophones)\, Michelle Cusick (clarinets)\, and Natalie Pate (harp). The ____ Experiment quickly began collaborating with composers around the United States to create works for this new instrumentation.\nTheir first recital tour featured performances at Michigan State University and Bowling Green State University\, following that they had additional performances at the Flint Institute of Music and the University of Michigan both featuring mostly newly composed works. In the summer of 2018\, The _____ Experiment recorded their first album\, Conversations\, with Sly Pup Production and went on to release the album in March 2020. This album featured seven world premiere recordings featuring composers from multiple states\, including: Michigan\, Florida\, Ohio\, and Arizona.\nIn July of 2020 The ____ Experiment expanded to include oboist\, Ava Wirth. Throughout the rest of the year\, the ensemble worked to record pieces that were compatible with socially distanced settings. One of these works was the first composer collaboration with the new instrumentation: Tyler Mazone’s Mini Personalities for Oboe\, Bb Clarinet\, and Tenor Saxophone. They also started a series of virtual projects aimed at cross disciplinary collaboration entitled Visual Soundscapes. In the Spring of 2021\, the ensemble continued to expand to include Maya Grossman on Basson. During this time\, The _____ Experiment was heading a commission for composer Josh Trentadue. In May of 2021\, the newest member was added to the ensemble\, harpist Danielle Kuntz.\nIn August of 2021\, the entire ensemble met in person\, the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic began. During this meeting\, The _____ Experiment rehearsed and recorded new works that were released during the fall of 2021. Six of these works were released on the October recital\, “Kadupal”. This recital had three world premieres\, including the commission with Josh Trentadue\, Meditation and Hymn to Nature.\nThe members of The _____ Experiment are located in Ann Arbor\, MI\, Cleveland\, OH\, Chicago\, IL\, Wichita\, KS\, and San Francisco\, CA. When not rehearsing\, the members of this ensemble enjoy mountain biking\, taking care of their pets and plants\, and laughing at cheesy jokes about musicians.

Each piece seems to grapple with a sense of losing time\, losing place\, losing human connection\, or losing self. Together the pieces are an outward expression of feelings left mostly internalized during the isolation of the pandemic. The music is intensely intimate\, but also impersonal\, dissociated. It searches for meaning and longs for warmth\, touch\, and connection.” – Daniel T. Lewis\n\n– Digital Disquiet –\n“Sebastian Zel’s Fever Dream is an expression of personal experience with insomnia and the liminal space between consciousness and dreaming. Musically\, it is an icy and winding journey that strikes a delicate balance between harmonic resolution and dissonance. The ambiguous haze the listener is left in establishes a fitting backdrop for the chilling opening of Stephen Montague’s Tongues of Fire\, which builds from a low rumble to a picture of destruction of cosmic proportions. Lento \nDr. Tatiana Shustova Biography: \nDr. Tatiana Shustova was born in Saint Petersburg\, Russia\, where she studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov Music School and the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory. She also participated in piano and chamber music master classes at the Music Hochschule in Leipzig\, Germany\, in collaboration with New York’s Juilliard School. \nTatiana completed the Artist’s Certificate Program and a Master’s degree in piano performance at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She studied with Maxim Mogilevsky and Robert Satterlee and won first prize in the 40th annual Concerto Competition. \nIn 2008\, she was awarded a fellowship to enter the doctoral program in piano performance at the University of Illinois\, Urbana-Champaign. She completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance under the direction Dr. Ian Hobson in spring 2013. \nTatiana has appeared at festivals in the United States such as the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp\, Illinois Summer Youth Music\, the Bowling Green Music Institute\, and the Toradze Piano Institute. In Europe: the Ionian Summer Music academy\, Corfu\, Greece; Les Orres International summer academy\, Embrun\, France; Suomussalmi Music Festival\, Suomussalmi\, Finland; and Musica Atri\, Atri and Scuola Italia\, Urbania\, Italy. Tatiana has received numerous awards in solo and chamber music competitions in Italy and Russia and has played many concerts in Europe. At the competition Musica Atri (2004)\, she received 1st place along with an invitation to play concerts and the opportunity to participate in master classes with Eugenie Mogilevsky\, professor at the Brussels Conservatory. \nDuring the summer of 2010\, Tatiana was appointed as a vocal coach at the Scuola Italia program (Urbania\, Italy). During the same year\, Tatiana and her husband Aaron Jacobs (violin) received second prize at the international music competition Premio Alberto Gori. In October 2011\, Tatiana and Aaron where invited to perform works by Liszt in the Liszt-Garrison Festival and Competition and won an award for their performance of “String Poetic” by Jennifer Higdon.In November 2012 Tatiana received First Place in the American Protege International Romantic Music Competition and had her Carnegie Weill Recital Hall Debut. In March 2013 Tatiana had a solo recital at the Krannert Center for the Arts at Urbana\, Illinois for annual 21st century piano commission award. \nTatiana is currently an adjunct faculty member at Millikin University School of Music\, where she is collaborative pianist and piano class professor\, as well as piano\, chamber music\, theory and musicianship instructor for the Illinois String Academy and Piano Laboratory Program at UIUC. Her recent chamber music collaborations includes Illinois Arts Trio performances with Prof. Amy Catron (cello) and her husband Prof. Aaron Jacobs (violin) and Illinois tour with flute artist from Finland Sami Junnonen. In addition\, she mentors an independent piano studio in Savoy\, Illinois where she resides with her husband and two sons\, and is Artistic Director of the Chambana Music Competition\, which recently received Urbana Arts Grant. \nDr. Aaron Jacobs Biography: \nDr. Aaron Jacobs enjoys a multifaceted career as a teacher\, performing artist\, ensemble director\, and clinician. His teaching experience includes public school\, community\, pre-college\, and university level studio and classroom teaching. His performance experience includes extensive work as a soloist\, chamber musician\, and orchestral musician. Additionally\, he has an extensive background in program building\, curriculum design\, pre-service and professional teacher education\, administration\, and leadership. \nFor over 20 years\, Aaron has taught at universities\, academies\, music schools\, and summer institutes throughout Ohio\, Maine\, Wisconsin\, and Illinois. At the collegiate level\, he taught applied violin\, string pedagogy\, and string methods courses as a faculty member at Millikin University and Illinois State University\, and as a graduate assistant at Northwestern University\, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. For ten years\, Aaron worked at the University of Illinois\, where he collaborated with a team of faculty and graduate students to establish the Pre-College Chamber Music Program in 2011 and personally founded the Illinois String Academy in 2015. There\, he maintained a studio of roughly 25–30 violin and viola students annually\, mentored a staff of undergraduate\, graduate\, and post-doctoral instructors\, provided his staff with pedagogical training on a weekly basis\, taught a wide range of violin and viola group classes\, coached pre-college chamber music\, directed two chamber orchestras\, and administered all the Academy’s offerings. Also in 2015\, he created a violin program for Danville\, IL school district 118\, which offered violin instruction to nearly 200 first and second grade students at two elementary schools in Danville\, IL. Aaron continues to instruct young violinists and violists privately\, and his students consistently win top honors and performance awards each year\, including solo concerto performances with orchestras as well as admission and scholarship offers to prestigious collegiate music institutions. \nAs an active chamber and solo recitalist\, Aaron has performed throughout the United States and Europe. Collaborations with his wife and duo partner—pianist\, Tatiana Shustova—have been particularly rewarding. Since 2005\, performances have taken the Jacobs-Shustova Duo to Italy\, Russia\, and several U.S. states\, and they have earned awards at two international competitions. Notable chamber music collaborations for competitions and tours have included the Sariana Trio (violin\, saxophone\, and piano)\, Chambana Arts Trio (violin\, cello\, and piano)\, and the Illinois Arts Trio (violin\, cello\, and piano). Aaron has worked closely with composers Stacy Garrop\, Missy Mazzoli\, and Bright Sheng in the performances of their works. His extensive work as a professional orchestral musician has included numerous appointments as concertmaster\, principal second violin\, or principal viola\, and he has been a featured soloist with chamber orchestras at Bowling Green State University and the University of Illinois\, the Danville Illinois Symphony Orchestra\, Jacksonville Illinois Symphony Orchestra\, and the Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra. \nAs a clinician\, Aaron has served as Co-Director and faculty member of the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy (PRSP) Workshop for professional musicians and teachers. In this role\, he has become a resource to string teachers throughout the United States and on six continents. In 2017\, he presented a research poster session at the American String Teachers Association National Conference; more recently\, he has presented clinical sessions at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in 2019 and the Illinois Music Educators Conference in 2020 and 2022. He has been invited to lead master classes and clinics at collegiate institutions in Illinois\, Indiana\, and Ohio\, and is a certified Mentor for string teachers enrolled in the certification program of the PRSP Society\, for which he is also a member of the Board of Directors. In 2022\, Aaron designed a PRSP course for ISU that will grant Level 1 Endorsement towards certification to the string majors enrolled and will also be involved as an instructor for additional PRSP certification events throughout the summer. \nAaron is particularly grateful to his many teachers and mentors over the years. For most of the last fifteen years\, he has been playing most Mondays at Beat Kitchen with free-improvisation group Extraordinary Popular Delusions. \nJAMES DAVIS \nJames Davis\, a Chicago trumpeter and music maker\, is comfortable in and always enjoys exploring a wide array of musical environments. As a composer and improviser\, Davis is involved in a diverse blend of musical communities in Chicago. His diverse background and ranging interests can be heard in his own Chamber-Jazz group Beveled\, the improvising effects-laden LORIS\, and various Jazz projects. \nIn addition to leading different formations of his own groups\, Davis has also recently collaborated and/or recorded with Matt Ulery’s Pollinator\, Chris Dammann’s Restroy\, Lucas Gillan’s Many Blessings\, The Heritage Jazz Orchestra\, and The New Standard Jazz Orchestra. James has earned recognition as a finalist both in the 2004 International Trumpet Guild Jazz Improvisation Competition and the 2007 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Competition and has completed degrees at the University of Texas at Arlington\, and at the University of North Texas. At UNT\, James had the opportunity to tour and record with the Grammy nominated One O’clock Lab Band and the UNT Wind Symphony. \nJames’ playing and compositions are featured on his newest album Disappearing Roads\, his 2014 release Beveled\, the James Davis Quintet album Angles of Refraction\, the avant-rock/jazz/improv band Zing!’s\, Magnetic Flux\, and multiple albums with Albertan drummer Karl Schwonik. He is currently on faculty at Triton College\, Wheaton College\, and Harold Washington College. \nChristopher Dammann \nChristopher is a composer/bassist who lives in Chicago. He is lucky enough to have improvised with many of his favorite musicians\, worked in a variety of bands\, performed music for national television shows and ad campaigns. He writes music for games\, television and film.\nRecent work includes the score for Kera MacKenzie & Andrew Mausert-Mooney’s award winning non-fiction montage feature\, Make A Distinction\, the Restroy release\, sketches\, for ears&eyes records and IKZ (Toby Summerfield\, Kevin Davis\, and John Niekrasz) release I saw the Cryptic Problem of my Generation Destroyed on Chicago label\, Amalgam music.\nChris is currently working on material for a newly formed sextet (Scott Clark\, Jon Irabagon\, Edward Wilkerson\, Mabel Kwan\, James Davis) with plans to record summer 2024.\nChris is also proud to be a teaching artist with the People’s Music School of Chicago\, Chicago’s largest tuition free music school.
