DESCRIPTION:Pianist\, composer and arranger Andrew Barnes Jamieson will perform solo pieces for the piano that are completely improvised\, drawing on his experience as a deeply creative performer with a multifaceted stylistic background. He will also be joined at times by composer and french horn player Megan Grace Beugger\, and composer Ben Zucker\, with his own improvised composition. \n$10 suggested donation \n————————— \nWith a passion for gospel music\, Andrew plays for City of Refuge\, UCC in Oakland\, California. With a passion for free improvisation and experimentation\, he created the polytonal “Ives Band\,” and the jazz/gospel-oriented “Trouble Ensemble.” He strives to integrate these musical streams through improvisation and creative composition. His 2014 chamber opera Heaven Down Here explores the profound hope and profound danger of both experimentation and faith traditions through the story of Jim Jones’ People Temple. His 2015 solo album Heard the Voice is a “dialogue” between experimental sounds and melodies of spirituals.\nAndrewbarnesjamieson.com \nIn his solo piano set\, he will spontaneously innovative harmonies and surprising compositional forms that incorporate a wide variety of traditions. In addition to music\, Megan has a strong interest and background in visual arts\, which has been a huge influence on her work. Her Music can be read about in the publication Noise in and as Music by Aaron Einbond and Aaron Cassidy\, which published a conversation regarding the performance of her work Daring Doris at the Qubit Noise Non-ference\, and in Jennie Gottschalk’s Experimental Music Since 1970\, which describes my work Liaison\, among other publications. Current projects include a solo electric guitar piece for Dal Niente’s Jesse Langen\, a theatrical piano piece for composer/performer Anthony Green\, and a recording project of her single breathe flute piece “Asthmatic Inhalation and Exhalation\,” for Kathryn Williams. As a composer\, sound artist\, multi-instrumentalist\, and performer\, he has contributed to the experimental music scenes throughout the US and Europe\, performing and presenting work in places including the Banff Centre\, Vortex Jazz Club\, Center For New Music\, Trinity College Dublin\, Chapel Of The Chimes\, Southbank Centre\, New York Fringe Festival\, Switchboard Music Festival\, Experimental Sound Studio\, and the Darmstadt Ferienkurse. He has been called a “master of improvisation” (IMPOSE Magazine)\, was recognized as a “New Composer Talent” by the International Audio Branding Academy\, and his solo albums have been acclaimed as “a testament to the power of restraint and arrangement” (Decoder Magazine)\, and “more than a little bit remarkable” (Free Jazz Blog).
